Nordictrack recently updated their Freestride trainer models – and there’s a lot of confusing information out there since the old models get mixed up with the new.

That’s what this post is all about:

Giving you a simple Freestrider comparison chart where you can compare all 3 Freestride Trainers (the new models) at-a-glance to see which is right for you.

Note that you can also compare them even more in depth at the Manufacturer’s site here.

But you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click the very-small button that says “Compare Models” (so a lot of people miss it).

Nordictrack Freestrider Comparison – Other Things To Know

There are a few other differences as well that are not so obvious (but you may want to know).

#1 iFit Coach

All 3 Freestriders come iFit Coach Compatible.

With iFit Coach you can run trails from all over the world and even choose from over 12,000 different workout videos to watch – from HIIT training to yoga workouts to walking tours of famous places.

iFit Workout

iFit is really the next generation of personalized training and it can take a boring elliptical and turn it into your own personal fitness studio.

However with the dual color console on the FS5i Freestrider, you won’t get as much use out of the iFit Coach video workouts – unless you have a tablet.

If you have a tablet you can connect to iFit that way, use the tablet holder above the console to attach your tablet and watch the video workouts that way:

However with the FS7i and FS9i models, you won’t need to have a tablet to connect with iFit (although they both still have tablet holders if you want to use them). You can watch iFit workouts through the full-color consoles.

Which brings us to the next difference.

Nordictrack FS7i Console

The FS7i console is 7 inches whereas the FS9i console is larger at 10 inches (see pics above the below to compare).

Some people don’t care but if you want all the bells and whistles of watching your iFit world scenery workouts in larger, living color, you might prefer the FS9i console

Finally, it’s also worth noting that (as of this writing anyways), if you get the Nordictrack FS7i or FS9i Freestriders through the Manufacturer you’ll also get a 1 year FREE Membership to iFit Coach (over $300 value). So you can try out iFit for the whole year to see if you like it.

Note that you don’t need iFit to use the Freestrider – so if you don’t want to renew it, that’s fine. But if you want to try iFit for Free, this is definitely worth considering.

#2 HandGrips

The handgrips on the moving arm bars are slightly upgraded (sleeker and softer to grip) on the FS7i and FS9i models.  They are standard on the FS5 model.

#3 Heart Rate Monitor

Another thing that most people miss is the heart rate monitor. If you get the FS7i or FS9i Freestriders through the Manufacturer here, you can get a Free wireless heart rate monitor with your purchase.

The FS5i model does not include this (although it will still work with a wireless monitor).

This is fairly important since none of the Freestrider trainers have the standard EKG hand grip pulse monitor.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for something beyond a standard elliptical, the Freestrider might be right for you. It gives you something other ellipticals don’t – a completely adaptable stride of up to 32 inches.

So instead of being locked into a fixed stride (that may not feel comfortable for you – or for others in the family), you can choose the stride that feels right for you.

You can also constantly change up your workout and burn more calories.

The Freestrider models all have this huge benefit – they just vary by things like console, iFit options, flywheel, resistance and incline. So take your time, compare them and find the one that fits you best.

I hope you found that quick Freestrider comparison chart helpful in your search!
