Pros of the Nordictrack Elite 16.9 Elliptical:

#1 Built In 15″ HD TV

Watch your favorite shows with this large, HD TV, attached separately to the console. It sits at eye level which reduces the strain on your neck (from looking down for long periods of time).

It’s cable ready and has all the same hookups as a normal TV (so if you want to plug in a DVD player for example, you can do that too).

Another thing that is great about this is that you can plug your headphones into the console jack and listen to the TV that way (great if you have little ones who nap or just want to keep your workout quiet!)

web-browser#2 Full Color Web Browser

The Elite 16.9 comes with a touch-screen, full color web browser. So you can surf the net, read emails or watch Youtube videos as you workout.

This is guaranteed to make your workouts more enjoyable!

#3 Incline For Improved Crosstraining

Incline or ramp is a popular feature with buyers because it changes the slope of the elliptical motion. This has the added advantage of working different muscle groups and giving you a more effective workout.

The Elite 16.9 crosstrainer comes with a 0 to 20 degree incline ramp. So you can challenge yourself and crosstrain different muscle groups with this option.

#4 Smooth Ride with A 32 Pound Flywheel

nordictrack elite 16.7 flywheelA heavier flywheel gives you a smoother feeling ride without a lot of jerky stops and stars you often get with cheaper ellipticals.

The Elite 16.9 comes with a super-heavy flywheel: 32 pounds. This helps to anchor it and give you really smooth transitions and much higher stability than cheaper machines.

(Think of the flywheel as being like an anchor for the machine – the heavier it is, the more anchored the machine feels).

ifit live

#5 iFit LIVE

As if you don’t already have enough you can do on this trainer, you also get iFit LIVE. iFit connects your crosstrainer to the internet.

From there you can go online and download unlimited new workouts to your elliptical – including some from celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through you workout.

You can also map out new trails to run all over the world with Googlemaps and iFit. There are preset “famous” trails like Central Park but you can also map out your own.

#6 Adjustable Pedals

This is a great feature that can make your workouts more customized (and comfortable). Choose from 3 different toe-heel angles on the footpedals and find one that feels most comfortable for you.

#7 Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor

heart rate monitorYou get a free wireless heart rate chest strap with this machine. It sends constant feedback to the console on your heart rate.

A lot of people prefer the wireless monitor because it gives more accurate results. Plus, you don’t have to keep grasping the heart rate sensors to get your results (which can be a pain if you want to work your upper body with the arm bars).

Cons of the Nordictrack Elite 16.9 Elliptical Trainer:

#1 iFit Live Subscription Extra

ifitThe iFit LIVE subscription is extra (around $99 a year). However you don’t need to use iFit in order to use this elliptical (you can also still use the web browser without iFit).

So you don’t have to buy iFit right away. You can wait and try it out later if you’d prefer.

#2 Not Really An Adjustable Stride

Nordictrack advertises this as an adjustable stride (20 – 21 inches). And many people find that a bit misleading. You can’t actually adjust or set the stride for your workout as you can with some of their other models.

The stride length changes as you change the incline – which isn’t really what most people think of when they think of an “adjustable stride”.

Bottom Line?

If you want a highly stable, front-drive elliptical – with all of the extras, including a built-in TV and web browser, the Elite 16.9 is your machine.

It gives you strong construction basics (long stride, heavy flywheel, high stability, power incline) and adds in the kind of touches you usually get with a health club crosstrainer (TV, web browser, full color console, 35 built-in workouts etc.).
