Pros and Cons of the Elite 12.7 Model
The Nordictrack Elite 12.7 elliptical has the unique distinction of being the most affordable Nordictrack ellipticals with a built-in full color web browser (at present).
The Elite series of crosstrainers is built by Nordictrack to be a bit tougher than their regular crosstrainer series – with heavier flywheels, longer warranties and higher user weight capacities.

Pros of the Nordictrack Elite 12.7 Elliptical:
The Elite 12.7 uses the wireless in your home to connect your elliptical to the Internet. From there you can surf, read the latest business news, watch Youtube videos and more.
This is guaranteed to make your workout go by faster! The browser is a touch screen and is bright and easy to use.
#2 iFit LIVE Built-In
This goes along with the full color web browser. iFit connects your elliptical to the internet and from there you can do a lot. You can download unlimited new workouts to your elliptical – including some from celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through you workout.
You can also map out new trails to run all over the world with Googlemaps and iFit. Want to stroll through Paris? No problem.
Or hike through Yellowstone national part? It’s easy. You even use Googlemaps streetview to watch landmarks pass you by.
What’s really neat about this elliptical is that the incline and resistance also automatically change to match the terrain of the trail you’re running. Very virtual reality.
You don’t need to buy an iFit LiVE module with this crosstrainer – it comes built-in (although the iFit subscription is extra).
#3 Power Incline/Ramp
Ramp changes the slope of your elliptical motion and helps you to crosstrain different muscle groups – giving you a more effective workout.
The 12.7 comes with a 0 to 20 degree power incline option. The incline also changes the stride length from 20 – 21 inches, which also helps you work your muscles more fully.
#4 Oversized, Adjustable Pedals
The Elite 12.7 crosstrainer lets you customize your workout even more with the adjustable pedals. You can choose from 3 different toe-heel angles to find which one feels most comfortable for you.
Plus different toe-heel angles may also help you to target and tone different muscle groups.
Also, the pedals are built closer together than previous models to reduce stress on the hips. This more closely mimics a natural stride pattern which also gives you a more comfortable, natural workout.
#5 Smooth Ride with A 32 Pound Flywheel
A heavier flywheel gives you a smoother feeling ride without a lot of jerky stops and stars you often get with cheaper ellipticals. This 32 pound flywheel is impressive – especially considering that similar brands like Horizon use 16 – 18 pound flywheels.
#6 Snap Assembly
While everyone wants a high quality elliptical, nobody wants to spend hours putting it together. Nordictrack has taken this into consideration and the new 2014 model is super-simple to assemble.
It’s basically put together in 3 steps out of the box – which should only take a few minutes (not hours!) and ready to go. So you could be using it within minutes of getting it into your house.
Cons of the Nordictrack Elite 12.7 Elliptical Trainer:
#1 iFit Live Subscription Extra
The iFit LIVE subscription is extra (around $99 a year). However you don’t need to use iFit in order to use this elliptical (you can also still use the web browser without iFit). So you don’t have to buy iFit right away.
#2 Adjustable Stride Length? Not So Much
Nordictrack advertises this as an adjustable stride (20 – 21 inches). And that’s a bit misleading. You don’t actually get down and set the stride for your workout.
The stride changes as you change the ramp or incline – which isn’t really what most people think of when they think of an “adjustable stride”.
The Elite series of ellipticals was designed to be a bit heavier in construction with some of Nordictrack’s premium toys. And the Elite 12.7 is the most affordable version in the series.
To get an elliptical with a full color web browser built in at this price point (with a 32 pound flywheel) is pretty amazing. If you’re looking for a premium elliptical – without the premium price tag, this one is worth considering.
