Nordictrack E 11.9 Elliptical

The Nordictrack E11.9 Elliptical is a front-drive crosstrainer that was brought in to replace the 2014 Nordictrack E11.7 trainer.

Unfortunately Nordictrack is currently phasing it out – it’s going to be replaced by the new 2016 Nordic track C 9.5 model.

It may hang around for a while – but ultimately if you’re looking for a similar machine for $1000 less, you’ll want to check out the C9.5 elliptical here.

But if you’re still set on this trainer, here’s an overview of what you need to know before you buy:

Pros of the Nordictrack E11.9 Elliptical:

#1 Full Color Web Browser

nordictrack-11-9-console-7inchThe 11.9 crosstrainer uses the wireless in your home to connect your elliptical to the Internet.

From there you can surf, read the latest business news, watch Youtube videos and more.

This is guaranteed to make your workout go by faster! The browser is a touch screen and is bright and easy to use. And you can hook it up with iFit and watch real road scenes pass by as you workout.

#2 iFit LIVE Built-In

This goes along with the full color web browser. iFit connects your elliptical to the internet and from there you can do a lot. You can download unlimited new workouts to your elliptical – including some from celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through you workout.

ifit live on nordictrack 11.9 ellipticalYou can also map out new trails to run all over the world with Googlemaps and iFit. Want to stroll through Paris? No problem.

Or hike through Yellowstone national part? It’s easy. You even use Googlemaps streetview to watch landmarks pass you by.

What’s really neat about this elliptical is that the incline and resistance also automatically change to match the terrain of the trail you’re running. Very virtual reality.

nordictrack e11.9 power ramp

#3 Power Incline/Ramp

Ramp changes the slope of your elliptical motion and helps you to crosstrain different muscle groups – giving you a more effective workout.

The 11.9 trainer comes with a 3 to 20 degree power incline option. The incline also changes the stride length from 18 – 20 inches, which also helps you work your muscles more fully.

#4 Oversized, Adjustable Pedals

nordictrack Elite 12.7 pedalsThis crosstrainer lets you customize your workout even more with the adjustable pedals. You can choose from 3 different toe-heel angles to find which one feels most comfortable for you.

Plus different toe-heel angles may also help you to target and tone different muscle groups.

Also, the pedals are built closer together than previous models to reduce stress on the hips. This more closely mimics a natural stride pattern which also gives you a more comfortable, natural workout.

#5 Smooth Ride with A 20 Pound Flywheel

A heavier flywheel gives you a smoother feeling ride without a lot of jerky stops and stars you often get with cheaper ellipticals. This 20 pound flywheel – while it’s not the largest that Nordictrack makes – is impressive and helps to anchor the elliptical for higher stability.

#6 Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor

heart-rateThis elliptical also gives you a free wireless heart rate monitor to stay in your target heart rate zone.

Most people prefer the wireless option as you don’t have to continually grasp the hand sensors to track your heart rate.

Cons of the Nordictrack E11.9Elliptical Trainer:

#1 iFit Live Subscription Extra

ifit liveThe iFit LIVE subscription is extra (around $99 a year). However you don’t need to use iFit in order to use this elliptical (you can also still use the web browser without iFit).

So you don’t have to buy iFit right away. But if you want to try it out at some point, you will need the online subscription.

#2 No Moving Armbar Controls

While you can easily change the resistance and incline from the console, there are no controls on the moving arm bars which some people really like.

Bottom Line?

Overall, the E11.9 is a great little starter elliptical – and the full color console at the $1000 price point was an amazing deal. However at the current price point (and since Nordictrack seems to be phasing this model out), you’re better off going with the very-similar-but-$1000-less Nordictrack C9.5 elliptical.

This trainer also has the full color web browser, incline and iFit. Plus it also carries a heavier flywheel than the E11.9 and a tablet holder above the console. So overall it’s the better buy right now.
