Nordictrack C12.9 Elliptical Review – The Benefits:
#1 Heavy 32 Pound Flywheel Gives You Extra Stability
A heavier flywheel gives you a smoother feeling ride without the jerky stop-and-start motions you often get with cheaper ellipticals.
The flywheel on the C12.9 elliptical is a whopping 32 pounds and gives you an ultra-smooth ride. Plus the extra weight adds stability to the machine. So you can really work this trainer without wobbling or shaking.
#2 Full Color Web Browser
The 12.9 trainer comes with a full-color, touch screen web browser built right into the console.
So you can surf the net, read emails or watch Youtube videos as you workout.
This alone will make your workouts much more enjoyable and you’ll probably find it much easier to spend time on your trainer.
#3 Built-In Tablet Holder
Nordictrack improved the tablet holder above the console for this year. It’s much easier to adjust the viewing angle – making it easier to see your tablet from all angles, no matter your height.
Plus, since it’s separate from the console, you can watch the tablet and surf the net (or see your workout stats) at the same time!
#4 iFit LIVE
The Nordictrack C12.9 elliptical trainer comes with iFit LIVE built-in. iFit connects your trainer to the Internet.
From there you can download new workouts from Jillian Michaels or track your workouts over time. This alone is really motivational to see how far you’ve come and set new fitness and health goals.
You can also run famous trails all over the world – from Paris to Hawaii – and watch real world landmarks pass you by. There are pre-mapped trails to choose from – or you can even use the mapping feature to create your own trail (for example if you want to go running in an old neighbourhood).
#5 Up to 20 Degree Power Incline
Incline changes the slope of your elliptical path and helps to work different lower body muscle groups.
You get from 0 to 20 degree incline with this elliptical. It’s power incline – so you can change it from the console without having to get off the machine.
You can even change it from the separate armbars in front of the console – which is more convenient than having to read up to the console to do it.
#6 Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor
The Nordictrack C12.9 elliptical also comes with a Free wireless chest strap to monitor your heart rate. A lot of people prefer this as it’s much more convenient that continually grasping the hand sensors (which means you can’t work your arms any time you want a heart rate reading).
Nordictrack C12.9 Elliptical Review – What You Should Know:
#1 iFit LIVE Subscription Extra
While you do NOT need iFit to use this elliptical, if you want to try out everything iFit has to offer, you will need to eventually get an iFit LIVE subscription – which is around $99 a year.
#2 Not Really an “Adjustable Stride”
Nordictrack advertises the C12.9 elliptical as having an adjustable stride from 18 – 20 inches. But that’s a little misleading. The stride changes as you change the incline – you can’t just set it and go as with some trainers.
The Nordictrack C12.9 is a premium elliptical coming in at a mid-range price. It steps up from the C9.5 model to give you a heavier flywheel for added stability, more heart rate tracking options and controls on the arm bars.
Plus the full color web browser, tablet holder, iPod dock and iFit will make your workouts a lot more enjoyable.
While it doesn’t carry some of the toys of the more expensive Nordictrack crosstrainer models, it’s still a strong, impressive machine that gives you a lot more than many other ellipticals at this price point.
