The Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 Pro elliptical was a best seller about 5 years ago. It gave you several attractive benefits.
First of all, it came in under $1000 – making it a very affordable elliptical for those on a budget who still wanted a good brand name elliptical.
Second, it was one of the first starter ellipticals to give you incline. Incline or ramp changes the slope of the elliptical trainer pathway. By doing this you actually recruit and use different muscle groups.
Incline is actually what made Precor so popular in the early elliptical market. They were the only elliptical that had incline – until several others came along, like the Nordictictrack 990 model.
So if you didn’t want to pay $3000 for Precor, the Audiostrider 990 also gave you incline.
Since the Nordictrack 990 Pro came out about 5 years ago however, there are a lot more Nordictrack elliptical trainers that also give you incline. So it’s not as big of an advantage.
Finally the Audiostrider 990 also folded up to save you space. So you could get a decent elliptical that folded up and away – which was great for smaller apartments or condos.
However you may have noticed that the Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 Pro elliptical is a lot harder to find these days.
So what happened to it?
Why would Nordictrack discontinue an elliptical that had won several “Best Buy” awards and was still a popular favorite with buyers?
Well, actually they didn’t discontinue it – they just changed the name (which probably wasn’t the best marketing move on their part, but that’s another story).
The Nordictrack 990 is now called the Spacesaver SE7i – and you can read the full review of the latest model here. The name is a bit more appropriate technically. Because “Spacesaver” describes what it does – folds up.
And the good news is that Nordictrack has kept it at the same price – under $1000. And they’ve even added a few upgrades to the new model like a larger console window, iFit Compatibility, adjustable footpedals and a tablet holder – so you can watch movies as you workout.
So if you’ve been looking for the very popular Audiostrider 990 Pro but wondering why you can’t find it – now you know! It’s been upgraded (with a name change) to the Spacesaver SE7i.
(Note that if you plan on buying the Audiostrider 990 Pro second-hand, the warranty is automatically voided on a second buyer. And since it’s an older model, if something goes wrong with it, you’ll be out a lot of money to fix it. It’s for this reason that I don’t recommend buying any elliptical trainer second hand.)
