Pros and Cons of The Audiostrider 990 Folding Elliptical

The Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 elliptical has been around in one form or another for more than 4 years now. It’s a bestseller and has earned several “Best Buy” ratings from different magazines over the years.
Nordictrack usually updates it with the latest toys and goodies each year – but still manages to keep the price down, which is pretty impressive in this tight market.

Pros of the Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 Elliptical:
#1 Power Incline
Although this is becoming more common with ellipticals, it’s still a great find here that will help you add in even more crosstraining to your workout.
Incline changes the slope of the elliptical movement – which means you end up training different muscle groups. This also gives you an overall more effective and challenging workout.
#2 Oversized, Adjustable Pedals
The 990 elliptical helps you customize your workout even more with the adjustable pedals. You can choose from 3 different toe-heel angles to find which one feels most comfortable for you.
Plus different toe-heel angles may also help you to target and tone different muscle groups.
Also, the pedals are built closer together than previous models to reduce stress on the hips.
This more closely mimics a natural stride pattern which also gives you a more comfortable, natural workout.
#3 Easy Assembly
While everyone wants a high quality elliptical, nobody wants to spend hours putting it together. Nordictrack has taken this into consideration and the new model is super-simple to assemble.
It’s basically put together in 3 steps out of the box – which should only take a few minutes (not hours!) and ready to go. So you could be using it within minutes of getting it into your house.
#4 Folding To Save Space
It’s getting harder to find a folding elliptical these days – that still gives you the hardiness of the Audiostrider 990.
If you want to save space or have a workout area that doubles as something else (like a living room), this is a very handy feature.
Just fold up the unit and roll it away when you’re done working out (there are wheels on the bottom).
#5 iFit Compatible
The Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 is iFit Compatible. This means that you can connect it to the wireless internet in your home and download new workout programs, track and sync your fitness progress online, set new goals, map out new trails to cover and more.
iFit gives you a lot to do so you never get bored and it’s extremely popular with elliptical buyers.
#6 Workout Fan To Keep Cool
The fan on the console automatically adjusts the speed to match your workout speed which is pretty cool (no pun intended).
Cons of the Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 Elliptical:
#1 iFit Live Subscription
While you don’t need iFit to use this elliptical, if you want to check it out you’ll need a yearly subscription – which is about $99 a year.
#2 Dual-Color Console
While this is pretty much what you’d expect at this price point, the console on the 990 is only dual color – not multi color. Some people prefer a multi-color console of the higher end models like the Audiostrider 1490. But again, this isn’t a huge deal as it’s pretty standard for this price point.
#3 No Wireless Heart Rate Monitor
Some people prefer a wireless heart rate monitor as it tends to give more accurate feedback. This again is found on higher end models.
While it’s not a commercial machine, the Nordictrack Audiostrider 990 elliptical is still one of the best values at this price point.
It comes in at a great price and still manages to give you a sturdy feel, heavy flywheel, incline and even adjustable footpedals to customize your workout feel.
