You’re not alone, these are two of the most popular center-drive elliptical trainers on the market.
Center drive elliptical trainers use two smaller flywheels on either side of the footpedals – instead of one large flywheel in front or in back of the pedals.
There are several benefits to this design including a more comfortable feel and a more compact design – taking up less space.
But what about when you compare the Nordictrack ACT vs ACT 10?
How do they stack up against each other?
And which one is the best choice for you?
Here’s a rundown of the main differences between them and what you need to know:
Nordictrack ACT vs ACT 10 – Price
The Nordictrack ACT is the classic model – and the one that started it all. It’s also the most affordable model on the market, coming I around $999 plus Free Shipping here.
The Nordictrack Commercial ACT 10 is the premium version of the ACT – with a few more bells and whistles on it. You can find it around $1499 with Free Shipping here.
Nordictrack ACT vs ACT 10 – Console
This is where you’ll see what one of the biggest differences between these two models. The ACT has a backlit, dual color console with a scrolling message board and a holder for your tablet above the console:
The ACT 10 outdoes the ACT with a full-color, touch-screen console. The ACT 10 console also carries a built-in Android web browser. So you can surf the net, read emails or watch YouTube videos as you workout:
It’s also fair to note that the ACT 10 console is larger than the ACT console – 10 inches vs 5 inches. So it’s basically double the size.
This can make reading your workout stats a lot easier. Plus with the web browser it’s a lot easier to connect with iFit LIVE (you don’t have to buy the extra module like you will with the ACT model).
Nordictrack ACT vs ACT 10 – Flywheel
A heavier flywheel helps to give you a smoother-feeling ride as you pedal. It also helps to anchor the machine for added stability.
The ACT comes with a respectable 23 pound flywheel. The ACT 10 model carries a heavier 25 pound flywheel. So it will feel a bit more stable, especially when you really work out on it.
Nordictrack ACT vs ACT 10 – Heart Rate Monitor
Both elliptical trainers come with the hand grip sensors to track your heart rate on the stationary bars under the console. However the ACT 10 also comes with a Free wireless heart rate chest strap when you get it from the Manufacturer.
Many people prefer the wireless chest strap since it tends to be more accurate than the hand grips. It’s also much more convenient than having to continually grasp the hand sensors to track your heart rate.
Nordictrack ACT vs ACT 10 – Workouts
Both ellipticals come with plenty of built-in workouts. However the ACT 10 comes with a few more – 35 vs 32. So you have a bit more to do on the ACT 10.
However if you’re planning on getting iFit LIVE with your trainer, you’ll get unlimited new workouts. So this difference may not really matter to you.
Both the Nordictrack ACT and the ACT 10 elliptical give you the benefits of a center drive design including a more upright standing position, closer footpedals (for less hip strain) and a more compact footprint.
The real differences are seen in the console and the flywheel.
The consoles are quite different – with the ACT 10 giving you a much larger, full color console with added web browser. The heavier flywheel will also stand up to more use – and abuse.
The ACT elliptical however is the more affordable option with all the basics that you need to get a good workout.
So it really comes down to what you’re looking for.
