3 Unique Benefits of the ACT Elliptical
Heard about the Nordictrack ACT and wondering what all the fuss is about?
Wondering if it’s the right choice for you?
The Nordictrack ACT elliptical (also called the ACT Commercial elliptical), is one of the most popular Nordictrack trainers on the market (Click Here for the Full Review).
Well, it looks interesting, that’s for sure. But when you drill down and actually uncover some of the benefits you get with this trainer, it’s easier to understand why people love it so much.
Here are a few of the unique benefits you get from the Nordictrack ACT elliptical – that you may not have realized:
Nordictrack ACT Elliptical Benefits
#1 Center Drive Design
Center drive elliptical trainers are a very unique style of crosstrainer. Instead of one large flywheel in front or out back of the pedals, you get two smaller flywheels on either side of the pedals.
This not only looks cool – but it also places you a little more upright on the pedals – a position that feels more comfortable for a lot of people.
These trainers also tend to have the footpedals spaced closer together. This is another feature that gives you a more comfortable feel to your elliptical motion (with less strain on the hips).
#2 Side Handrails for Balance
You may not have realized it (I didn’t until trying the ACT elliptical out a few years ago) but most elliptical trainers don’t have side handrails or anything to grab onto (except the front stationary handlebars). The ACT does.
You don’t necessarily NEED handrails on the side of your elliptical machine.
But if you’re at all concerned about balance, it really does help to realize there are side handrails to grab onto. This can make you feel a lot safer as you run.
#3 Adjustable Stride
The number one question I get from people on this site is about stride length – which stride length is best?
This makes sense. A proper stride length will fully work your leg muscles and give you an optimal workout.
A stride length that is too short won’t work your leg muscles fully and result in less calories burned. It also feels choppy and uncomfortable.
A stride that’s too long can feel like you’re straining and even result in a few pulled muscles at first.
Stride length is a tricky question because it really depends on you, your height and your, ahem, lower body design.
The general consensus is that the best stride length for most heights ranges from 18 – 20 inches.
The Nordictrack ACT comes up with a solution to the stride length problem – because it gives you an adjustable stride.
In fact you can choose from a stride of 18 up to 22 inches. And you can set the stride in 1/4 inch increments. So you can really drill down and find the best possible stride feel for you.
So those are 3 benefits of the Nordictrack ACT elliptical. Note that there are two different models – the original ACT elliptical and the premium Nordictrack ACT 10 which gives you a few more bells and whistles – including a full-color, touch-screen HD console and heavier flywheel for better stability.
You can also compare the two different models at the Nordictrack Manufacturer here.
