Nordictrack ACT Commercial 10 – A Good Buy For You?
The Nordictrack ACT Commercial 10 elliptical is the luxury model in the ACT series.
The ACT series is a group of center drive ellipticals from Nordictrack. Many people like a center drive design because you tend to stand more upright on the pedals with less leaning over on the handrails.
Plus the pedals are usually spaced closer together than other designs – which places less stress on your hips and feels more comfortable.
The ACT 10 gives you a lot more upgrades over the ACT model including the full color web browser, iPod dock, extra heavy flywheel and wireless heart rate monitor.
Plus it adds a new tablet holder above the console and incrementally-adjustable stride length.

Nordictrack ACT Commercial 10 Review – The Pros:
#1 Full-Color, Touch-Screen Web Browser
Nordictrack updated this to a larger 10 inch web browser this year – and it’s something you don’t get with the standard ACT model.
With the touch-screen console browser, you can surf the net, read emails or just catch up on the latest business news from the comfort of your console.
It uses the wireless in your house to connect and get you online. This is a fantastic way to entertain yourself while you’re working out.
#2 iFit LIVE Built-In
iFit works hand-in-hand with the built-in web browser.
With iFit you can go online and download unlimited new workouts – including some from Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through your workout.
You can also run famous trails all over the world and watch the scenery pass you by in the console screen (using Google Streetview). You can even create your own trails using Googlemaps and run in your old favorite neighbourhoods for example.
iFit also helps you to track your fitness progress online and reach new goals. Basically you’ll never run out of things to do with this option.
#3 Added Tablet Holder
There’s a sturdy bracket above the console that will hold your tablet in place (and close to eye level for more ergonomically correct positional viewing). So you can watch your favorite shows or movies on your tablet as you workout.
Also, if you get the iFit LIVE option, you can actually use it with your tablet as well (although you can also use it with the web brower). Because the tablet will not cover your console, you can view both your workout stats and your tablet at the same time.
#4 Heavy 25 Pound Flywheel
In general, the heavier the flywheel, the smoother the ride feels. The Nordictrack Commercial ACT 10 comes with a heavier flywheel than either the ACT or ACT 7 models to give you a more “gym” like workout feel. It also helps to anchor the machine for added stability.
#5 Improved Adjustable Stride
You can choose your own preferred stride length – from 18 up to 22 inches. Nordictrack has improved this feature on the new model. Instead of having to get off the elliptical to change the stride length, you can do it while on the trainer.
The knobs also adjust in quarter inch increments so you can really drill down and find a stride length that feels perfect for you, very customized.
#6 Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor
You get a Free Wireless Heart Rate monitor with this crosstrainer.
Many people prefer wireless monitors because they tend to be more accurate. Plus you don’t have to keep grasping the hand sensors to get a reading – which can be annoying.
#7 More Stable Than Lesser-Priced Models
The Nordictrack ACT 10 Commercial model is a bit more stable than the ACT 7 or ACT models. It’s built a bit tougher (with a heavier flywheel as well), which helps to give a more stable feel.
So if you really tend to workout out hard and heavy – this model can take more of a beating than the other 2 models.
Nordic Track Commercial ACT 10 – The Cons:
#1 iFit Live Subscription Extra
While you don’t have to buy the iFit LIVE module (because it’s built-in on this machine), the iFit LIVE subscription is extra (around $99 a year). You don’t need to use iFit in order to use this elliptical – you can still use the web browser, the iPod dock, and the built-in workouts just fine.
However if you do want to get the full benefits of the iFit on this elliptical, you may want to try it out, even for a year.
#2 No Ramp
Ramp or incline changes the slope of the elliptical. While it’s not necessary to have – some people do like having it. Because of the limits off the center drive design, there is no ramp option with any of the center-drive ellipticals.
On the plus side however, this also means that the pedals are closer to the floor on this machine. So if you have a lower ceiling height and you’re worried about being too high up when you workout, the ACT is a good model to choose.
If you like the benefits of the center drive elliptical (more comfortable, more compact, less hip strain), but you want a heavier model with more substance (and bells and whistles), then the Nordictrack ACT 10 is a great choice.
It gives you all the benefits of a center drive trainer – plus it adds a heavier flywheel, more stable base, and full color web browser to surf the net as you workout.
The new model also upgrades to an added tablet holder, improved stride adjust and sleeker, more compact look with less bulk at the base than older models.
