Essential Information Before You Go Shopping
Thinking about a Nordic Track Elliptical Trainer? While I admit, I’m a bit biased, it’s still fair to say that these trainers are some of the most popular on the market.
They give you a lot of benefits that you often don’t find with other brands like:
- incline for better crosstraining
- built-in web browsers
- adjustable foot pedals
- online fitness tracking
- built-in TVs (Elite 16.7 only)
- heavy flywheels for added stability
- adjustable strides and more!
But there are a few things you should know about these ellipticals BEFORE you buy – so you can get the best deal for your money. Here are some things to keep in mind when shopping:
#1 Get the Latest Models If You Can
Nordictrack tends to come out with new models every year. They also take popular trainers and “upgrade” them but keep the model numbers the same. These new models are built with the latest technology and upgraded ergonomics (vs past models).
So basically the newest models offer you the most bang for the buck (and they’re usually around the same price as last years models).
Be careful however as many stores often sell older models for up to a year after the new models are out. Make sure you’re looking at the latest models if you want the most for your money (you can click here to visit the official Nordictrack site to see this year’s models).
#2 iFit LIVE – What You Need To Know
iFit LIVE is an incredible technology that sets these crosstrainers apart. It connects your elliptical to the Internet and from there you can download new workouts from Jillian Michaels, track your progress online or race against your Facebook friends.
You can map out new trails to run using Googlemaps and watch the actual terrain pass you by in the console (using Google streetview).
While this is very cool – you should know that there are 2 types of iFit. The first is found on the starter models (under $1000). For this one, you need to purchase an iFit LIVE module to connect to your machine and use iFit. The module is around $99. You also need an iFit subscription (around $99 a year).
The second type of iFit LIVE comes on their higher end models. This is iFit LIVE built-in which means you don’t need to buy a module. So you will save around $99. (You do however still need to get the iFit yearly subscription).
Many people think that they need to purchase iFit as soon as they buy their Nordic track elliptical. However that is not true. You can use these ellipticals just fine without iFit. You can then purchase iFit when you’re ready.
#3 Three Different Types of Designs – What’s the Difference?
Nordictrack offers 3 different elliptical designs:
And Center Drive.
Each design has benefits – and it’s up to you what you want. Front drive trainers tend to have more of a climbing motion and can be highly stable (good for heavy use).
Rear drive trainers tend to have a more flat running motion and are usually more affordable.
Center drive trainers are more compact and have pedals closer together which can feel more comfortable and reduce strain on your joints.
So again, it really depends on your goals and preferences. But it’s nice to know you have a lot of options with these crosstrainers – there’s something for everyone.
So those are 3 things you must know before you buy a Nordic Track elliptical trainer. For a full list of this year’s new models click here to visit the official Nordictrack website.
